Rules & Guidelines
Photography & Video
Photography and videography are allowed. Please no flash. Additional lighting, monopods/tripods, or selfie sticks are not allowed.
Food & Drink
No food or drink is permitted inside the library. A list of nearby restaurants is available at the Visitor Services Desk. Please note that most locations on The University of Texas campus are not open on weekends.
Smoking
The University of Texas at Austin is a tobacco-free campus. Smoking outside the building is not permitted. The university prohibits the use of any tobacco product on campus property, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, water pipes (hookah), and smokeless tobacco. It also prohibits innovations in smoke or tobacco products such as any non-FDA approved electronic nicotine delivery device, e-cigarette, or vape pen.
Security
The LBJ Presidential Library is a federal facility as it is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). To protect its holdings, staff, and buildings, NARA facilities abide by the following measures within Code of Federal Regulations, 36 CFR § 1280:
- All bags are subject to inspection upon entering the building.
- All persons entering or leaving the building are subject to an inspection of their person and property.
- If requested, all persons entering must provide valid photographic identification.
Visitors should also be aware that:
- Electronic and physical surveillance is used in the building.
- Security is on-site 24 hours a day.
Weapons
The LBJ Presidential Library is a federal facility as it is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). To protect its holdings, staff, and buildings, NARA facilities abide by the following measure within Code of Federal Regulations, 36 CFR § 1280:
- Firearms and other dangerous weapons are prohibited in the building.
It is a violation of federal law and punishable by fine and/or imprisonment to knowingly possess, cause, or attempt to introduce them in a federal facility.
Accessibility

Animals
Animals are not permitted inside the library, except for service animals on a leash and under their owner's control.
Lost & Found
If you find or lose an item while visiting, please contact our visitor services staff on the third floor. For questions about lost items after your visit, contact us at (512) 721-0225 or visit@lbjlibrary.org.
Luggage
There is no luggage storage available at the library. Please plan accordingly.
Infants & Young Children
- Baby changing stations are available inside the accessible restrooms on floors 2 and 10.
- Strollers are permitted inside the library unless otherwise noted for a special exhibition.
- Breastfeeding and bottle feeding are permitted anywhere in the library.
WIFI
Visitors are welcome to join our public wifi network. It is available for use in all our public exhibition spaces.
First aid
Please inform the nearest security guard, volunteer, or library staff member if you require first aid.
Planning Your Time
A typical visit to the library takes between 90 minutes and two hours. If we have a special exhibition on view, allow for approximately 30 extra minutes.
Limited Time
If you're short on time, we recommend prioritizing the following exhibition spaces and artifacts to gain the most insight into President Johnson's life and political career. This visit is approximately 30-45 minutes.

- "The Hotline" Teletype Machine in the Vietnam War section
- Step into the Great Hall and look up at the four floors of archival boxes
